Dear Friends:
Bishop's Office
2415 N. Tyler
Little Rock, Ark.
Mother Teresa of Calcutta will visit Little Rock on June 2nd and
3rd. You and your family are invited to participate in a prayer service
at Ray Winder Field, 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 3rd.
I attended a graduation recently. The speaker said, "Close your
eyes and picture where you will be five years from now." About fifty
years ago, a humble peasant girl in Yugoslavia closed her eyes and
said, "I want to love all the poor of the world personally." Her name is
Mother Teresa.
Mother Teresa went to India where some people are so poor, they
are born in the streets of Calcutta; they live in the streets; they die i
the streets. She and the young women associated with her minister to;
the poor, the sick, the homeless, the dying.
World leaders who seek true world peace, long ago, recognized the
connection between peace and poverty. Thus several years ago, the
King of Sweden awarded the Nobel Peace Prize to Mother Teresa.
The money received was immediately given to the poor of the world.
Mother Teresa, in ministering to the poor, has never faltered in her
respect and in her love for life. Mother Teresa is a strong advocate of
life. She has said that the nations permitting abortions are the poorest
in the world. In fact, we hope she will see our needs in Arkansas to
help women who are distressed and pregnant. We hope she will send
devoted sisters to staff Abba House, a place of hope, help, refuge for
such women.
We ask men and women of good will to join us in prayer. May we all
be closer to God, more ready to serve the poor, become stronger
advocates of life because Mother Teresa has touched our lives.
Your friend,
+ Andrew J. McDonald
Bishop of Little Rock
Legend
Mother Teresa of Calcutta, with His Ex-
cellency Bishop Andrew J. McDonald im-
mediately behind her, is nearly crushed by
the large crowd welcoming her to Little Rock
in upper left photo. A spiritual bouquet and
flowers are given to the diminutive nun by one
of a group of children on hand at Adams Field
(middle left). Mother Teresa is looking
somewhat surprised by the number of per-
sons greeting her as Bishop McDonald and
her traveling companion, Sister Priscilla,
look on (above). A large number of news
media were on hand for a press conference at
Television Station KTHV, Channel ll,as
Mother Teresa answers a question (bottom
