ii/ t i!/ The Grocer---Baker---Butcher!! and every tradesman is at the very elbow, so to speak, of the housewife who is equipp- ed with the greatest of modern services-- The Telephone You can shop by telephone--visit by telephone because your voice is you. "Your Home" Should be Equipped With a BELL TELEPHONE Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. YOUR vOICE IS YOU-- VISIT THEN--BY TELEPHONE To Consumers of Gas : It may seem early to talk about gas for heating purposes with the thermometer playing around the 100 mark. But: It is important that your pipes and appliances are in good condition before Win- ter comes and the time to have them examined is now, when the plumbers are not busy and can give you prompt service. SERVICE PIPES: FLUES: Many houses have the small 1-2 or 3-4 inch service pipes original- ly put in for artificial gas to serve a single cook stoe and lights. The same pipes are in use to serve, perhaps half a dozen stoves or heaters--the consequence being that in cold weather, when there is a large consumption of gas, your pressure is low. No serivce pipe should be less than 1 1-4 inch, and the other pipes from the meter should be graded down according to the number of appliances used. It is essential that flues be free of obstruction so as to give a good upward draft and afford perfect combustion. BURNERS AND CONNECTIONS: Burners should be cleaned, they should be of the right kind and properly adjusted. See also that connections are properly made and you will get the best service.
