McDonnell Directs Retreat Of H01y Antei's S0dalists, Dec.r 8 Jonesboro.-- The ninth annual The grand old tradition of the retreat of Holy Angels' Sodalists, which was given by Reverend James P. McDonnell, was held on December 8, the fea.t of the Im- maculate Conception. The re- treat which began on the eve pre- ceding lhe feast was held through- out the next day and ended with High Mass on the morning after the feast. Father McDonnell has conducted the retreat for the last two consecutive years. The first conference was based on the retreat itself, what it meant and for what purpose we were making it. In his second talk, he spoke o the unique woman of all times  "The Blessed Virgin Mary"; his third was entitled "Christ Conscious"; his fourth, "Companions, Example, Criti- cism"; his fifth, "Vocations"; and his sixth, "Reception of the Sacra- ments." In his last conference he expressed his gratitude for the fervor which the Sodalists hd shown in making the retreat. Reception Mass High Mass, celebrated by the Retreat Master, Father McDonnell, closed he retreat. The Mass in Honor of the 'Child Jesus by J. Alfrea Schehl, and Hoffman's Ave Maria for the Feast of the Im- maculate Conception were sung by the retreatants. After the Mass, twenty-four candidates were received into the Sodality. Those who pledged themselves to be ever faithful to their Queen, the Blessed Virgin Mary, are: Lucia Byers, Arlene Hager, Kathleen Schwarz, Helen Schwarz, Mary Ritter, Katherine Kim, Dorothy Hockle, Theresa Lisko, Charlene Brown, Dorothy Faye Daniel, Vera Birmingimm Joe Ann Gross, June Mahkovitz Jackie Stewart, Sally Fitzmaurice Mary Melvin, Jane Sellmeyer Mary Ann Sellmeyer, Marion By- era, Bonnie Jean Gross, Idell 19Iah- fouz, Joseph Byers, Nina Sue Stanage, and Jesse Lee May. Sodality Breakfast The Sodality Breakfast which is an annual affair after each re- treat was held in the Academy Au- ditorium with the tables and the auditorium decorated with the So- dality and school colors--gold, blue, and white. The tables were centered with bowls of yellow chrysanthemums and placed at each individual's*place was a min- iature statue of the Blessed Vir- gin Mary and a small corsage of ellow chrysanthemums as favors rosary was carried out in a beauti- ful scheme down the center of the table. A small wood cross at the head of the prefect's place marked its beginning. Small gilded stat- uary roses surrounded with na- tural rose leaves and containing lighted candles were placed down the center of the table to repre- I sent the small beads of the rosary 'and large blue candles represented the larger heads. A miniature grotto of the Blessed Virgin sur- rounded by red and blue vigil lights adorned the edge of the stage. A delectable two-course menu was served during which a short program was carried out with Father Milan acting as toastmas- ter. The prefect, Doris Anne Daniel, introduced the toastmas- ter and he in turn called on sev- eral sodalists for short speeches. The mothers of the sodalists were special guests. -- |1 i i i i i .
