Now in its fourth year, the Spanish Marriage Encounter movement has begun to enliven and deepen Catholic spiritual life among our Hispanic people. J John Duke and Bo McAUister, respectively, are planning with my office and with other people involved in Hispanic ministry to begin a program to train lay min- isters and deacons. This will fill a need that we have long felt to train and involve more Hispanic people in ministry. 84 None of the progress that has been made by so many people involved in Hispanic ministry in the diocese would have been pos- sible without the calm, loyal, patient and devoted support of Bishop McDonald. The Hispanic people love him and trust him. I delight in seeing them bring their little children to him to be blessed. He clearly delights in doing it. He has often said, echo- ing the U.S. bishops' conference, that Hispanics are a blessing for the Church. He never tires of repeating this message to the Hispanic people in the diocese. They respond with love for him, but also with a growing sense of their own dignity as Catholics, of their now-essential place in the Catholic life of Arkansas, and of their duties as members of this local church. Father James R. Brockman, SJ, is director of the Diocese of Little Rock Hispanic Ministry Office. Bishop McDonaM recognizes the Hispanics who have come to the Diocese of Little Rock as a blessing from God. Jesuit Fathers Brockman (top) Dixon play key roles in minister" ing to Hispanics. While Fatherf Brockman is currently director oJ Hispanic Ministry, Father Dixo takes care of the needs of comma" nities in Northeast Arkansas. Arkansas catholic ,i /
