Holy Name Society Hailed Cleveland (NC) -- The Holy Name Society is as vital to the Church today as when it was founded 700 years ago, John Cardinal Krol of Philadelphia told members of the society here. Addressing the two-day national convention, Cardinal Krol said that the Second Vatican Council had not "swept away" the Holy Name Society. Some persons, the cardinal said, "assumed that the council swept away everything that was, and that they were free or bound to introduce new ideas, new structures, in some cases even new doctrine." The council Fathers, he pointed out, "could not possibly abrogate or change God's commandments, including the one which forbids the taking of God's name in vain." is a positive one. It seeks to develop a knowledge and reverence for Jesus... the program calls for reparation - atonement as well as a con- certed effort at personal sanc- tification."
