PAGE 8 THE GUARDIAN, SEPT. 13 1974 'Begone, Satan !' CCUA-NCWU Declaration Warns of Growing Satanism (Following is one of severalDeclarationsof Principles adopted during the 1974 joint convention of the Catholic Union of America and the National Catholic Women's Union). angels. The general attitude of much of mankind is a fluctuation of total disbelief of the devils to an unwholesome emphasis on them. In addition from time to time there have been devil worshippers, or Satanists. The popularity of the film 'The Exorcist' is an example of the fascination today with the Devil. It comes at a time, especially when many young people are throwing over the traditional norms of Christian morality and seeking new ex- periences in the occult. In a foolhardy fashion, just as many The Catholic Church teaches that God created the angels. He allowed them the choice of their destiny having bestowed on them the marvelous gift of freedom. The acceptance of His Divine Will would bring them eternal happiness; the rejec- tion, eternal punishment. The angels, who freely submitted. their wills to the Will of God, passed their trial successfully and were rewarded with eternal happiness; the angels, who followed the lead of Lucifer, or Satan, in his revolt 'I will not serve', are damned in Hell for all eternity as devils, or fallen 'Unions' Principles Cover Wide Range St. Louis -- The Catholic CCUA and the 58th of the CWU, Central Union of America and the National Catholic Women's Union have adopted a joint Declaration of Principles, calling for reviving devotion to the Sacred Heart, supporting a pro-life Amendment to the Constitution, deploring abor- tion, contraception, and satanism, advocating an in- stitute for Christian leadership training and the promotion of fraternal insurance. - The Declaration on satanism is published herewith, and other segments of the "principles" will appear in coming weeks. The Declaration was adopted at the llgth annual meeting of I Do You Remember? I 0 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK The Guardian reported: Blytheville -- The Benedictine Sisters who are to teach at St. Peter's School during the coming year arrived at Hlytheville from Jonesboro Sept. 7. They are Sister Rosalia (who had spent some years here before ), Sister Alexia and Sister Agatha. All was made ready for them by the ladies of the Altar Society. held jointly here recently. Other particiPating organizations were the Christian Law In- stitute, Pro Ecclesia, Men of the Sacred Heart and the Youth Group of the CCUA-CWU. Theme of the joint convention was Pope Paul VI's call last November "to construct a new world more human and just, more aware of society's real needs, according to the Gospel's holy instructions. Christianity cannot be lived in any old way; either it is lived fully or it is betrayed." His Excellency Bishop Albert L. Fletcher, former Bishop of Little Rock, who is national episcopal protector of NCWU, opened the traditional mission exhibit at the convention. The banquet speaker was His Eminence John Cardinal Wright of the Roman Curia, who was introduced by John Car- dinal Carberry of St. Louis. Chi lean Churchmen Plead for Amnesty Santiago, Chile (NC) -- Catholic, Protestant and Jewish leaders have appealed to Chile's military government for am- nesty for political prisoners, a lifting of the "state of internal war " and a review by civilian courts of the sentences imposed by military courts. Their appeal came almost a year after the overthrow of Marxist President Salvador Allende, Sept. 11, 1973. In a letter to Gen. Augusto Pinochet, the head of the military junta and Chile's chief of state, the leaders of four major church bodies in Chile also asked for a "mitigation of the consequences of political struggles we have known and suffered," an apparent reference to continuing repression. 2S YEARS AGO THIS WEEK ILe Guardian reported: Little Rock -- St. Andrew's Cathedral School opened Sept. 6 with a High Mass in honor of the Holy Ghost. Mass was celebrated by Father Wiliam Burke and sung by the children's choir conducted by Sister M. Philippa, O.S.B. Sister M. In spite of half- hearted denials, Satanism is both a denial and a hatred of God. The most hideous and sacrilegious form of Satan worship is the so-called 'Black Mass', a parody on the true Mass, in which the Satan worshippers abuse the Body of Christ in the Holy Eucharist This is why our priests and people must be on constant alert to protect the tabernacle in the Church. As Catholic people, we have a serious moral responsibility to warn our young people of the dangers of the occult, especially of the evil of Satanism.
