Bishop McDonald letter Washington, DC - In a letter to Bishop Andrew J. McDonald of Little Rock, V flliamJ. Byron, SJ, President of The Catholic University of America, thanked the Diocese of Little Rock for its contribution of $3,000 to the Annual Diocesan Collection for the university. "Your people have many claims on their generosity. I am deeply grateful not only for their donations but also for the encouragement their support brings to all of us here at CUA. We will do our best in the year ahead to return the favor by a renewed commitment to our mission of teaching and research," the letter said. CUA is the nation's only university established by the U.S. bishops. More than a century ago, Pope Leo XlII, in response to the request by the U.S. bishops, granted a papal charter to establish CUA.
