RNE MEN'S WEAR 11327ArcodeDdve.UffieRock.AR72212.501/225-5959 ( 2 blocks west of Parker Cadillac ) Italian Rome (CNS) - The Italian bishops have a "favorable opinion" of the draft universal catechism, despite specific criticisms, said Cardinal Ugo Poletti, president of the Italian bishops' con- ference. The draft was prepared by a papally appointed commission, which sent it to the world's hierarchy for comment. Once completed, the universal cat- echism will be a guideline for the de- velopment of local and national cat- echisms. The cardinal's statement was issued after Jesus, an Italian Catholic monthly magazine, published critical excerpts of a bishops' conference report submitted to the commission. The criticism are similar to those issued by bishops in the U.S. and several European countries. The Italian report asked that the word "compendium" be used instead of "catechism" to describe the final document. This would provide greater flexibility and "favor the necessary process of adaption, which is proper to each catechism," the report said. It asked greater use of biblical and theological scholarship to help avoid the danger of placing an teachings on the same level. Remodeling - ,Adddm~ - Docks and Siding Licensed & Bonded.
