Murphy, moderator of the Little Rock Diocesan Council of Catholic Men, recently addressed the Holy Redeemer Parish Council in E1 Dorado. He was introduced by the pastor, The Rev. Joseph Doyle. At right is Robert Moellers, chairman of the parish council, who conducted the meeting. The El Dorado par- tsh council, one of the first organized in Arkansas, held its first meeting in June, 1968. American Pledge of Fealt00 Given to Vatican City -- A midwestern industrialist and his wife pre- sented a pledge of fealty with more than 100,000 signatures to Pope Paul VI during a private audience. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Flick of Oakbrook, IlL, presented the text, pledging allegiance to the Pope and to his teachings less than 24 hours after the Holy Fa- ther complained of a "diffused lack of confidence" in his lead- ership of the Church. Mr. Flick, president of the Flick-Reedy Corporation of Ben- senville, Ill., a manufacturer of air and hydraulic cylinders, said he began circulating the petitions when the Pope's birth control encyclical became a Enterprises, a division of the Flick-Reedy Corporation, is pub- lishing a quarterly magazine list- ing religious books of value to parents. The petition given the Pope said: "At this time, the Holy Father needs visible evidence of the loy- alty of his children. To show this loyalty, please sign and have your friends sign the pledge below. Your signature and countless oth- ers will be bound and sent to the Holy Father in Rome by the Flick- Reedy Education Enterprises." The pledge itself reads: "Your Holiness, I, the undersigned, pledge allegiance to you and your teachings.,, Mr. Flick also told the Pon- tiff that each signer will receive literature d e s c r i b i n g books, pamphlets and films that support the teachings of the Holy Father. In addition, Flick-Reedy Education Goan Convert Forced to Resiqn Panjim, India (NC) -- The head of Gee state's medical college has been forced to resign foilow- iug his conversion to CathoUctsm. Dr. IC Roman, acting dean of the college, resigned after being informed that Goa's Hindu chief minister, Dayanand Bandodkar, was annoyed with him because of the conversion. Dr. Roman was summoned to Government Hodse where Lt. Gov. Nakul Sen asked him whether he had been converted to the Catholic Church. He replied that though he was a high caste Hindu he had chosen to become a Catholic. Dr. Raman explained that he was free to choose any religion and the Indian constitution also did not prohibit it. The lieutenant governor then threatened him with dire conse- quences and suggested that he go on leave. Dr. Raman replied that he did not mind leaving his present post and preferred to return to his original post as professor of path- elegy at the same college. While no decision has been ta- ken by the government on the re- quest, it was understood that Dr. Raman tendered the resignation.
