He loves the kids, however, and determines to maintain a home for them. The star of his play, a dippy but good- hearted movie actress (Dyan Cannon), attempts to console him by moving in with him and the children, but it turns out that domesticity so in- tense is more than she can take. All of this is pleasant enough, but superficial and never especially funny. Given its ambivalent moral outlook, its depiction of adultery and its simplistic, one-sided view of a marital break-up, it's mature fare and the U. S. Catholic Conference has classified it A-III, adults. The MPAA has rated it ,PG, parental guidance suggested. FIREFOX (Warner) ... In this plodding, unexciting movie directed by Clint Eastwood and based upon a novel by Craig Thomas, Eastwood plays an American pilot. Somewhat traumatized by his Vietnam experiences, he steals a vastly-superior Russian plane. His path is made smooth -- much too smooth, as far as en- tertainment goes -- because the scientists who designed the plane are dissident Jews eager to have it stolen (If they are dissidents, why did they work on the plane in such inspired fashion to begin with? Why not goof off a little and fix it so it only flies three or four times the speed of sound instead of six? ). What I found distasteful about this simple-minded melodrama is that it blunders upon some very serious issues - the plight of the Jews, an overtly- hostile act against a power we have diplomatic relations with -- which it is by no means equipped to deal with. Because of its ambivalent morality and its violence - three incidents of men being beaten to death, one suicide -- it has been classified A-Ill, adults, by the U. S. Catholic Conference. The MPAA has rated it PG, parental guidance suggested. A.C. (NC) -- The when the couple applied to the diocese indicated that a in which the couple was first Diocese of Phoenix an- him for marriage in early favorable decision was refused permission to marry nounced that it had given permission for a quadriplegic man in Mesa to marry in the church. Although the man, 28-year- old Jose Sosa, is paralyzed from the chest down, "the law of the church in such cases is strictly interpreted in favor of the petitioner," said diocesan spokesman Msgr. Robert Donohoe in a brief prepared statement. Sosa and his financee, Barbara Albillar, 23, plan to marry Oct. 30 in Queen of Peace Church in Mesa, said the parish's associate pastor, Father John Giandelone. Father Giandeione said that June, he sent their case on to the diocesan chancery, as required under church law, because Sosa's paralysis raised the possibility of im- potence. Church law forbids marriage if there is certainty of permanent impotence, which would make it im- possible for the marriage to be consummated. Father Giandelone said that the decision in favor of Sosa was based on advice by medical experts that per- manent impotence was not medically certain. He said the case received considerable publicity when BOB'S SUNNYMEDE DRIVE IN "Home of the Big 3516 North "0" St. Bob Burger" Homemade Chili &. Sosa's case was virtually identical to a nationally- publicized one in the Diocese of Joliet, Ill., earlier this year, and the decision was sub- sequently reversed on grounds that it was not medically certain that the paralyzed man's impotence was irreversible.
