A lumber company owner and member of the Board of Directors of East Arkansas Community College and the Arkansas Industrial Development Commission, he will take office January 1. Ed Chauvin, also of St. Francis par- ish, was re-elected to the Quorum Court of St. Francis County. The altar servers of St. Joseph parish in Conway will enjoy a picnic on Thurs- day, July 12, at Choctaw Recreation Area on Greers Ferry Lake. The boys will board the bus after a 7 AM Mass. Amy Snyder, who will be a senior at St. Joseph School in Conway, will take part in the UALR AEGIS program (Aca- demic Enrich- ment for Gifted in Summer). She will study i microbiology, immunology and aquatic biology with a small Amy Snyder group of stu- dents. The pro- gram also includes the writing of a formal paper and a field trip. Snyder is the daughter of Jerry and Patricia Snyder of St. Joseph. Mary, Mother of God parish in Har- rison recendy held its first-ever Vaca- tion Bible School. Twenty-five children, aged kindergarten through sixth grade, participated in the week-long session. Becky Hartman, coordinator, said that fifth and sixth graders planned the closing Mass, with all grades creating some part of the environment for the liturgy. Also, new CYO officers have been Closing Mass at Mary, Mother of God Vacation Bible School, Harrison. elected. They are: Carrie Scott, presi- dent; Rachel Duncan, vice-president; Lindsay Miller, secretary; and Alex Gratton, treasurer. The Altar Society of Our Lady of Good Counsel parish, Little Rock, will meet at Noon on Friday, July 20, at the home of Carolyn Raley, 7715 Kanis Rd. The meeting will begin with a pot luck lunch and will include planning and discussion of fall projects. Anyone wishing to attend can meet in the church parking lot at 11:15 AM to carpool. During six months as a postulant, Cathcart will begin formal classes in preparation for religious life. Cathcart was honored by the Immacu- late Heart Altar Society with a recep- tion following Mass on World Day of Prayer for Vocations.
