Boys State will be held at UCA in Conway July 10- 16. Pohlmeier is the son of Tom and Sharon Pohlmeier and is Keilh Pohlmeier being sponsored for Boys ,State by the Catholic War Veterans. Sim- mons is the son of Gary and Ka- tie Simmons and is sponsored by the Paris Ameri- can Legion. Both are mem- bers of the Na- tional Honor KurtiS Simmons Society, Key Club and CYO. Fifty people recently attended a Tri- Circle meeting of the Holy Rosary Al- tar Society at the parish center in Stuttgart. Sr. Maria Kleinschmidt, DC, Diocesan Director of Religious Educa- tion, spoke on the spirituality ofwomen. Michelle Didier, a fourth-grader at Holy Rosary School, played a Bach violin solo. She is a student of the Suzuki Institute of Music in Little Rock and is the daughter of Dan and Jenny Didier of Holy Rosary. Sr. Deborah Schump, OSB, led a group of parish- ioners and students in song. Members of Trinity Junior High School band in Fort Smith won 39 medals at the Solo and Ensemble Contest in Russellville recently. The band performed its spring concert on May 20 at St. Boniface parish audito- rium in Fort Smith. All present and former parishioners of Blessed Sacrament parish in Jonesboro are invited to a "Parish Reunion Day" on Sunday, June 3, from 1 - 5 PM. Pastor Fr. Ernie Hardesty sees the day as an opportunity for people to get acquainted with each other and re-aquainted with former parishioners. He also promises plenty of ice cream, fun and entertainment. Michael Bauer, an eighth-grader at Good Counsel School in Little Rock, has been awarded a full tuition scholar- ship to attend Subiaco Academy for the 1990-91 school year. Bauer is the son of Dale and Marsha Babb of Michael Bauer ' Jamie Gomez Maumelle. Jahaie Gomez,:' son of Jorge and Luz Marina Gomez of St. Mary parish in North Little Rock, was awarded a partial scholarship. Gomez is a fresh- man at Morris 'School in Searcy. Most of the flood victims work on farms and ranches along the river in the Richmond, Summer Hill and Wamba areas. St. Edward parishioners were attend- ing the regular monthly parish dinner when they heard the news of the flooded homes. A collection was taken up to pay motel bills, and all the extra food from the dinner was taken to the stranded families. The Outreach Committee asked for food vouchers from local restaurants and gave them out to the families. The prayer group at St. Edward has also donated money, The St. Vincent de Paul Knights of the Altar Appreciation and Awards Banquet was held recently at Oakdale Junior High School in Rogers. Former Knight Kevin Necessary served as the Master of Ceremonies. A proclamation by Rogers Mayor John Sampier was read. noting the Knights' service to Church, school and community. The main speaker was University of Arkansas head football coach Jack Crowe. Entertainment was provided by "Sweet Sweet Spirit" of the Bentonville First United Methodist Ch'ui ch directed by Les Oliver. Associate pastor Fr.John Marconi gave the invocation and pas- tor Fr. Richard Oswald gave the bene- diction. Tim Kernej was recognized posthu- mously as " haight of the Year." Kernej was killed at age 17 in a March auto- mobile accident in Rogers. He hadbeen an altar server since the third grade, and was vice president of the St. Vin- cent de Paul CYO. He sang in several choirs and was selected last year to attend the prestigious Adirondack Fes- tival of American Music, a 30-day music workshop in New York. Kernej was the son of Tony and Sandra Kernej of St. Vincent de Paul. Tim Kernel Various rank pins and honor crests were distributed to 80 knights.
