ARKANSASr. CATHOL1C BISHOP ANDREW J. McDONALD GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY EDITION May 9, 1998 Page 9 I think of children -- i!led with awe as they walk down the aisle to receive Jes'us, in first holy Commun- ion. I think of a boy about 10 years oldwho returned two little gold crosses to me at Easter time. I had given these crosses to some children. There were not enough for each child. This boy came to me and surrendered his gold crosses to me so that I could give them to children who were left out I think of young people -- in their teens -- alive, hopeful, daring, refreshing -- standing on the thresh- old of being responsible adults. I think of daring young adults -- accepting the responsibility of marriage and children. I think of daring young adults who give consideration to the priesthood, religious life as sisters and brothers. I think of those special people -- old, infirm, sick -- suffering the loss of a spouse, confined to a conva- lescent home, yet always bright and cheerful. For many days prior to May 8 and for many days after May 8, I will kneel before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. I will implore the assistance of our Blessed Mother. From the bottom of my heart, I will pray: NON NOBIS, DOMINE, NON NOBIS SED NOMINI TUO DA GLORIAM (Not to us, 0 Lord, not to us, but to your name, give the glory.) I will pray: QUID RETRIBUAM, DOMINO PRO OMNIBUS QUAE RETRIBUIT MIHI? CALICEM SALUTARIS ACCIPIAM ET NOMEN DOMINI INVOCABO/ (What shall I return to the Lord for all that he has done for me? I will take the chalice of salvation and I will call on the name of the Lord!) Thanks to you, my priests, my deacons, my religious, my people, you have been the way, Allduia! Thanks my Jesus. You have been my Way, my Truth, my Life! ALLELUIN ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA thanks to and on your of priestly A priest by any other name?
