EASTER I GREETINGS H [L. H. Lipsmeyer AL RUST , i 9, President Franklin D. Roose- velt stated that no more important task faces the Ame/'ican commun- ity today "than that of maintain- ing its homes." The President praised the prep- aratory work done by the Joint Committee on Natl. Family Week, the members of which are: The Rev. Dr. Edgar Schmiedeler, O.S.B., Director of the Family Life Bureau, National Catholic Wel- fare Conference; Dr. Harry C. Munro, of the International Coun- cil on Religious Education, and Rabbi Israel Goldstein, President of the Synagogue Council of America. Addresing his letter to Dr, Mun- ro, secretary of the committee, the President wrote: "I am very happy to learn of the plans for a common observance i of National Family Week May i2-9 1943 by the great religious bodies of this country. You and your colleagues Father Edgar Schmiedeler and Rabbi Israel Goldstein, constituting the Com- mittee on National Family Week, have performed a noteworthy ser- vice at this time in bringing the spiritual resources of Protestant, I Catholic and Jewish bodies to bear [ upon the pressing need of strength- l ening family life. "No more important task faces the American community today than that of maintaining its homes. l The health and happiness of chil- dren, the guidance of youth, the ,security of families must be guard- ed from impairment in wartime so that the well-being of this nation is assured. The historic concern for these values, and the central place of the family ideal in Chris- tian and Jewish traditions, con- stitute the greatest assets for as- suring success for this program throughout the nation. "I trust that no community, no church, no sincerely religious citi- zen throughout !this land, will fail to find a way to share in this na- tion-wide observance." Troy Churchman, CHURCHMAN DRUG CO. His educa.. date as the anniversary of the !tion, even from his earliest years, Consecration of the Most Rev- erend Albert L. Fletcher, Titular Bishop of Samos and Auxiliary Bishop of Little Rock. It was just three years ago that the sublime Ceremony took place. For the first time in the history of the Diocese, the Apos- tolic Delegate to the United States visited the State to consecrate Arkansas' first native son. Only once before was the state honor-* ed by the presence of so many Church dignitaries from through- out the nation, at the Silver Epis- copal Jubilee Celebration of Our Most Reverend Bishop, in 1931. Thousands of people lined the streets, adjacent to the Cathedral hours before the ceremony to wit- ness the colorful processional of 38 Archbishops, and Bishops, 3 Abbots, 25 Monsignori and scores of priests, visiting, Diocesan, and Religious. Bishop Fletcher is a native son, and his Consecration was the first ever to be held in Arkansas. He exemplifies that for which our Bishops and hundreds of sacri- ficing priests and laity prayed and worked. Bishop Fletcher represents the triumph of the Catholic way of living. His early life with his was completed at our Catholic schools. ! After hi ordination, June 4 :Se ANNIVERSARY on pa, ge REMEMBRANCE FLOWER SHOP PHONE 8613 412 Louisiana St. LITTLE ROCK, ARK.
