Here's what I need you to do today to help. 1. Mail the enclosed note below in the envelope provided so we can forward them to Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping asking him to free Bishop Fan and to let him receive medical care. 2. Ask your pastor to have special prayers at Mass for Bishop Fan every Sunday until he is released. 3. Send a donation to Free The Fathers today for our Emergency Fund for Bishop Fan. If you do these three things right now we will be well on our way towards getting Bishop Fan out and into a hospital. We have to have this money to sponsor advertisements in major newspapers to call attention to Bishop Fan's urgent need. Unfortunately, the news media ignores this persecution in China, so we have to buy advertisements to get the word out. Right now, we should be buying ads in The Washington Post and the New York Times. But we just don't have the money. We've already run ads in Catholic papers -- Our Sunday Visitor, Catholic Twin Circle, The Wanderer, The National Catholic Register and others. But that just isn't enough. We have to buy ads in the big papers.., the ones with the huge circulation.., the ones our government leaders read. But they are so expensive.., even a one-quarter page ad in the Washington Post costs $6,400! Will you give $25 to help pay for this ad? l If just 256 people give $25 we will have the $6,400 we I need for the Washington Post. With your help we can do it! In appreciation for your gift of $25 or more I will be glad to send you a copy of If The Grain of Wheat Dies, the inspiring biography of martyred Father Francis Chu. perhaps you are living on a fixed income and don't feel Or you can sacrifice more than $5 or $10. Believe me, no matter how small the gift it will be appreciated and put to good use. Only you know how much you can afford to give. But most important, I'm hoping you will pray for Bishop I Fan and for our human rights work on his behalf. I Bishop Fan has been forgotten by the world for so many long years.., now, unless you help, he will remain forgotten a i surely die a slow, painful death. Please help him while there's still time to save his life- I pray I will here from you very soon. Sincerely, , o nM Davies e.s, Our sources tell us Bishop Fan's mind is still strong, although his body is growing frail. He still hopes and prays that we will come to his rescue in time. We can't let this brave man down! I know you will do WII t you can to help. Please sign and return the note to us today. We'll immediately forward it to Chinese leader Deng.
